HOUSTON, Minn. – Maxine Ann (Gabrielson) Lind, 86, of Houston, who taught grade school for 33 years and was a substitute teacher for 10 more, died at Valley View nursing home. She held a teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and later a master’s degree. Earlier she was a receptionist at Ace Telephone. She and her husband farmed in Yucatan Valley and later along Money Creek. They won a Houston County conservation award for waterway diversion, terrace cropping and woodland practices, She grew on a Wisconsin tobacco farm. She reveled in retelling a story about a high school trip to the state music contest in Madison and riding there not on a school bus but on the back of a neighbor’s cattle truck.
