ST. CHARLES, Minn. – Joan Catherine Pollema, of St. Charles, who owned Grandma’s Variety and sold her homemade candles and the local high school Saints apparel, died at age 75. She grew up on a farm near Elba and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1964. She studied social work at Winona State University. She worked at Camera Art and Arbor Gardens. Her motto “Live simply.”
