BAY CITY, Wis. – A Rochester flight instructor and an aspiring pilot were the victims of a fatal plane crash while approaching the Red Wing airport. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office identified them as John Taylor Zeman, 28, and Ethan Owen Smith, 20. The plane went down in a field of farm stubble a half mile west of airport.
Smith. Nate Smith was a 2020 graduate of Lourdes High School, where he played hockey. He was studying aviation at the University of North Dakota. For the summer he was a groundskeeper at Somerby golf club at Byron.
Zeman. John Zeman was a 2018 aerospace graduate of the University of North Dakota. Hr was a member of the North Dakota Air National Guard and piloted MQ-9 Reaper drones as well as his personal Mooney.
