ROCHESTER, Minn. – The new regional Catholic administrative building in Rochester will cost $8 million, which Bishop Robert Barron said was provided by an anonymous donor. Pressed about the donor at a news conference, Barron said he would honor the donor’s preference not to be named. The external financial sourcing means the money is neither from parish contributions nor diocesan accounts. The Winona-Rochester Diocese has been under financial scrutiny by a federal court during the course of its bankruptcy for clerical sex abuses. The last of the Diocese payments to 145 victims from the $21.5 million bankruptcy settlement was completed in February. Barron told news reporters that the Diocese had met its moral and financial obligations and was pivoting to the future.
