ZUMBROTA, Minn. – An elderly woman died, apparently of smoke inhalation, when fire destroyed her house on the Zumbrota west side. Police Chief Patrick Callahan declined to release the victim’s name immediately. A neighbor had reported seeing smoke coming from the house about 1:10 p.m. The house was full of smoke when firefighters arrived. They found the victim unresponsive and carried her out and attempted resuscitation. The life-saving efforts failed. Two dogs in the house survived.
State fire marshal summoned. 630 West 5th Street.
