ROCHESTER, Minn. – A Rochester man was acquitted in the death of his girlfriend under the wheels of his pickup truck. Dewain Siewert, 44, was accused of backing his pickup unwittingly over his girlfriend in an alley and dragging her to death. The acquittal was accepted by Judge Joseph Chase. There was a plea deal in which a second charge of drunken driving remained. Stewert admitted to smoking meth a few hours earlier. Sentencing in the DUI charge will come later, Judge Chase said.
Tragic circumstances
Emily Jacobsen’s cat had disappeared one day in September 2019. Jacobsen and her boyfriend Dewain Stewert were calling for the cat in an alley and concluded that the pet was under a boat hitched behind his pickup. Stewert backed up the truck and trailer in hope of rousing the cat out. Unbeknown to him, Jacobsen was on her hands and knees looking under the boat. She died from her injuries the next day.
