WEST DES MOINES Iowa –Because of fraud and abuse, the 285-store Hy-Vee grocery chain has cancelled its employee discount program – at least temporarily. Georgia Van Gundy, executive vice president, said the chain is rethinking the fringe benefit to make it fraud-proof. In the meantime, no 10% discount. Gundy cted these abuses:
> One employee’s fuel-saver account was used in five different states in the span of one hour.
> Another employee made large purchases and resold the merchandise for profit.
