HOUSTON, Minn. – Voters in the Houston School District smacked down a pair of school projects that would have required $30 million in new taxes over 20 years. The negative vote was overwhelming. A proposal for $18 million for maintenance, safety and academic programming went down 868 to 113. A separate proposal, $12 million partly to upgrade the high school auditorium, lost 896 to 72. The voter turnout was 52%.
