WINONA, Minn. – School administrators are keeping eyes on the Winona County’s 14-day new case COVID rate to help guide a decision on whether to keep their mix of in-class and online learning. The 14-day rate has been vacillating near a record 75. School spokesperson John Casper said the numbers, however, will be only part of the mix in School District decision-making. In an interview on radio station KWNO, Casper said the decision will include where are cases are happening in the county and the affected age groups. “We see the benefit that our kids are getting from being in the building, even it’s just for two days a week,” he said.

For a variety of reasons, including teacher shortages due to quarantines, these nearby school have discontinued in-class instruction for some or all class levels: Dover, Galesville, Lewiston, St. Charles.
Good so far
So far Winona schools are not listed on the state Health Department’s K-12 list of school buildings with five COVID cases or more in the previous 28 days. Winona schools have had 23 cases since fall classes started.
