LACRESCENT, Minn. – Ten people escaped an apartment building fire shortly before 7 p.m. Also a pet made it out. Fire Chief Tom Paulson was unsure of the cause. The state fire marshal will investigate, he said. The 10-unit building, at 322 1st Street, was next to the city’s fire station. The response was quick, he said. Forty firefighters from La Crescent, Nodine, Hokah and Campbell spent three hours fighting the blaze. Paulson said nobody was allowed back in until could be determined if any section was habitable.
