LACRESCENT, Minn. – At a home high above the Mississippi River on Apple Blossom Drive ,  a U.S. flag was at half-staff to honor 13 soldiers who died in a bomb attack last week while evacuating civilians from Kabul. At Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the flag-draped cabins were brought home. President and First Lady Biden prayed aboard the C-17 transport plane carrying the coffins. They then joined grieving family members in a quiet dignified ceremony on the tarmac.

A gentle breeze, a clear sky. President Biden had asked that flags be half-staff until sundown Monday.  Image: Steve Lunde
