ROCHESTER, Minn. – Fire destroyed a three-car garage and a car inside at a northwest Rochester house. The occupants were alerted by a home alarm and escaped without injury. Firefighters said the alarm also got the to the house soon enough to pretty much saveof the two-story house itself. Even so, the loss was estimated at $190,000. The fire, at the 5400 block of 55th Street Northwest, was reported about 12:50 a.m. The cause was not immediately determined.
Early detection. Firefighters said the fire was a case study in the value of smoke and fire detector systems. Residents all made it out safely.
