WINONA, Minn. – City Council member Alexander, who voted against the Broadway street narrowing project, acknowledged that pedestrian safety merits attention. The project, cutting the street from four three lanes to improve safety, was defeated 4-3, by the Council Monday. Alexander said her negative vote was shaped by issues other than safety alone. Now is a time to address Broadway safety through less drastic measures, like lighting and pedestrian crosswalks. Such improvements, she said, are needed on many heavily traversed streets.
