MADISON, Wis. – Air National Guard jets flew over Truax Field in tribute to Major Durwood “Hawk” Jones of suburban Sun Prairie, who died in a crash in the Michigan Upper Peninsula in December. The pilots performed the “missing man formation,” in a “V” with the flight leader abruptly pulling up while the rest continue on. The jets were from from the 115th Fighter Wing at Truax and also the 123rd Fighter Squadron in Oregon, where Jones’ brother is an F-15 pilot in that unit.

They flew on. The fourth plane in the formation peeled off and upward in a symbolic tribute.

Black crepe. In an earlier tribute, fellow Air Guard crew members at Truax Field draped an F-16 in black bunting.
