MINNEAPOLIS – A federal magistrate threw out a request by Nathan Miller Dobbelmann, a former Winona jail officer to suppress evidence against him in case of massive child pornography. Dobbelmann claimed a search warrant of bis cellphone and Snapchat accounts was unwarranted and therefor invalid. The facts were curious: Dobbelmann had been stopped for a traffic violation in Minneapolis and taken to jail. He asked a friend to retrieve his car. In the car the friend found Dobbelmann’s cell phone with naked and lewd images of children. The friend took the phone to police. Magistrate David Schultz responded that Dobbelmann had entrusted the friend with his car and its contents and that police had made a reasonable inference that there was evidence of crime. An undercover agent was assigned to the case. The agent made contact with Dobbleman, who suggested, according to the criminal complaint, that he give him nude pictures of his minor daughter. The arrest followed.
