ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Army Corps of Engineers awarded $28.8 million for mooring improvements at its Fountain City base for for maintaining the Upper Mississippi navigation channel. The contracts:
> $18.6 million to Kraemer North America, of Plain, Wisconsin, to design and build straight-line moorage.
> $10.2 million to Newt Marine Service, of Dubuque, Iowa, for new mooring buffers.
Construction will begin in April with completion expected in late 2024, said Rob Maroney, project manager. The project will be noisy because of pilings being pounded deep into the earth, he cautioned.
