ARCADIA, Wis. – An employee died Wednesday afternoon at the Ashley furniture plant, but the company, as well as local authorities, declined to share details. The name of the person was not released either. The first local agencies that investigated were the Trempealeau County sheriff and Arcadia police. A day later Ashley issued a statement from its LaCrosse headquarters: “We lost a long-time member of the Ashley Furniture family, and we join with others who are grieving this loss. We have been and are treating this matter with the highest sensitivity, including communicating with associates, offering optional leave, and grief counseling.”
