MANISTIQUE, Mich. — Military troops and local emergency responders continued searching by air, ground and water for a Wisconsin Air National Guard F-16 pilot who may have ejected Tuesday night before the jet crashed in northern Michigan. The crash occurred after dark, about 8 p.m., during a routine training flight. The craft itself came down in a heavily wooded rural area along Lake Michigan on the Upper Peninsula. Whether the pilot ejected was uncertain. The search included the Civil Air Patrol aircraft and giant KC-135 tankers. The search was hampered from the start by weak communication links. Delta County Sheriff Ed Oswald called the area “very remote with no cellphone service.”
