ST. PAUL, Minn. – A new variant of the CoVid virus, Brazil P.1, has been detected in Minnesota, the state Health Department reported. The case was the first of the mutation reported in the United States. The variant was in a Twin Cities person just back from Brazil, the agency said. How serious is Brazil P.1? The Health Department said it is thought to be more transmissible than the original CoVid strain. Unknown is whether it causes a more severe illness. Meanwhile, the state has recorded eight cases of another variant that has swept through London and southeast England.
