Minimal effect expected on Winona shippers
MINNEAPOLIS – Canadian Pacific Railway bought the Kansas City Southern for $25 billion and extended its routes to Mexico. The deal is not expected to affect shippers along the CP’s Mississippi river line, although, with no interline transfers, there may be faster service to New Orleans and points deep into Mexico to ports on the Pacific and Gulf ports. There will, however, be railroad office jobs lost in Minnesota. The Calgary-based Canadian Pacific will move its U.S. headquarters from Minneapolis to Kansas City.
