ALBERT LEA, Minn. – A tabernacle cabinet used to store items for holy rituals was reported stolen from St. Theodore’s Catholic Church. Because the tabernacle weighed 150 pounds, police asked people in the neighborhood to check trash bins where a weary thief may have given up and discarded the item. Nobody responded, but two days later a 35-year-old woman was spotted pushing a cart down a road with the tabernacle inside. Police returned the cabinet to the church, albeit with minor nicks. The woman was taken into custody.
A bit worse for wear. Eucharist and other sacraments were kept in the tabernacle.
