WINONA, Minn. – The Winona City Council approved a $348,000 bid for resurfacing eight blocks of streets between Sarnia and Lake Winona. To be resurfaced: Two-block sections of leafy Winona, Washington, Johnson and Main streets that lead to mansions along Lake Winona. The agenda item gave Council members Michelle Alexander and Steve Young a forum to voice citizen complaints about delays in resurfacing other streets. “The way that we’re funding streets is broken,” Young said. “We’ve got to somehow figure out how we can get more money into streets to be able to meet the needs of the public.” Alexander said funding for street repairs, alleys too, has lost priority over the years. Been to the Hangers and Hems dry-cleaning drive-up off Main Street? Or the pocket McDonald’s next door? Or Winona Mall?
