ALMA, Wis. – A scammer posing as a local religious man is targeting people in Buffalo County, usually with text messages, for donations for cancer patients. Sheriff Michael Schmidtknecht issued an alert.:The scammer will ask targets to buy a gift card that will be donated to cancer patients. The scammer then will ask for a picture of the gift card showing its unique numbers. What to do? Schmidtknecht: Contact your clergy directly to verify the solicitation.
