ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposed a new habitat rehabilitation project downriver on the Mississippi River from Lake Pepin. The project would use 400,000 cubic feet of sand and gunk dredged at Reads Landing, upstream from the Alma, Wisconsin, dam. The project would be in Pierce County on the Wisconsin side. The Corps invited public comment on the plan. The project would be four peninsulas built from dredged material. The Corps said the project would reduce sediment effects on aquatic plants and fish, create floodplain forest and wetlands for migratory birds and other wildlife.
