ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded an $18.6 million contract to a Wisconsin company to straighten out the existing harbor wall at the Corps’ Pool 5A boatyard at Fountain City. The project involves leveling the grade at the service base, adding two crane cells, and updating electrical and water infrastructure. The contract, to design and build the upgrades, went to Kraemer North America of Plain, Wisconsin. The project is expected to take two years. The Fountain City yard is home base for the Corps’ heavy cranes, bulldozers and excavators used to maintain Mississippi River locks and dams. The Corps’ project manager, Rob Maroney, noted that the Fountain City facility has been in place more than 100 years.
