RUSH CITY, Minn. — A state prison inmate has died after contracting coronavirus — the fifth in the prison system and the first at Rush City. In St. Paul, the Department of Corrections confirmed the death, which occurred Saturday. The Department said that the Rush City prison has 49 COVID-pos prisoners and 21 pos staff. Elsewhere, the department said, two prisoners from other facilities are in critical condition and receiving ventilator treatment at outside hospitals.
Prison profile
The Rush City prison, northeast of St. Paul in northern Chisago County, houses 1,000 adult male inmates. The prison opened in 2000 and is the newest in the state corrections system. There are 350 employees.
