WINONA, Minn. – State health trackers reported three cases of the potent Delta variant of the Covid virus have been found in Winona County testing. The variant, which was found first in India, has swept through England and is expected to become dominant also in the United States within a few weeks. Two cases have been reported in neighboring Wisconsin counties, on each in Buffalo and Trempealeau counties. Statewide in Minnesota there have been 26 cases of the B.1.617.2 variant.

Smart precaution

The medical journal Public Health England says studies found full two-dose regimen of Pfizer vaccine was 88% effective against the Delta variant, a single dose 33%. Other vaccines also have been reported effective against the virus.
