MINNEAPOLIS – About 100 people gathered in the cold outside a gas station after a driver was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. Authorities arrived quickly at the snow-covered scene. They taped off the Holiday gas station near East 36th Street and Cedar Avenue. They blocked off nearby streets. Authorities pleaded to the crowd to keep the protest peaceful. Many in the crowd chanted anti-police slogans. There were Black Life Maters posters. Protesters played music and chanted from speakers mounted on a van. There was no violence. There were no arrests. Protesters warmed themselves around a bonfire in the street. By 1 a.m. most people had dispersed by 1 a.m. and left. Candles that had been set up in memorial remained.
