NEW YORK – Swedish-born pop sculptor Claes Oldenburg, whose legacy includes “Spoonbridge and Cherry,” a 51-foot conversation piece in Minneapolis, died age 93. He had been in poor health since he fell and broke a hip in June. Oldenburg was known for turning everyday objects into giant monuments that represent more than what they are. His goal, he said, was to “democratize art.” Many of his works were in collaboration with this wife Coosie van Bruggen, , who died in 2009.
