ST. PAUL, Minn. – The state Democratic chair, Ken Martin, said the party does not condone rhetoric that is violent, hateful or inflammatory. Martin was responding to video of an anti-police rally led by Democratic legislative candidate John Thompson. Most other Democrats leaders kept their distance. These included Governor Tim Walz, who earlier had endorsed Thompson. Said Walz then: “I’ve known John for years. His fierce advocacy and commitment to his community is exactly what’s needed in the State Legislature right now. I look forward to working with him as the next State Representative for 67A.” Walz has been silent since the rally. So too earlier Democrat endorsers Attorney General Keith Ellison and Congress member Betty McCollum.
