FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis – Even the seasoned Mecum auctioneers from Walwoth were stunned. The auction of Elmer Duellman’s automobile and car memorabilia collection at Fountain City drew $8.5 million. At the auction the top dollar was $242,000 for a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. Of 2,020 lots for auction these were the leaders:

Aviation beacon. Duellman’s salvage yard atop the bluffs above Fountain City remans a visual beacon for pilots looking for Winona when the Mississippi valley is fogged in. The salvage business became the genesis for his massive collection.
