WINONA, Minn. – A new refrigerator-size vending machine at Jefferson School takes kids’ coins and drops out a book. It’s Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine, which accepts only special golden tokens that students earn for good behavior and performance and also their birthdays. “It’s a fun, rewarding way to expand their love of reading,” said teacher Tammy Eastep. Among current titles: “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus,” “The Biggest Apple Ever,” and “Pig the Monster.” Eastep obtained a BK5K grant for the machine and gifts from Celanese, Eagles Club Midtown Foods, RTP and WNB Financial.
