COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The co-joined St. Benedict’s and St. John’s universities confirmed that they were investigating allegations that male students conducted a competition this fall to see who could score more sexual encounters with female students. Katie Alvino, a spokesperson, said the universities have been investigating since late September. “We will not tolerate sexual misconduct in any form,” Alvino said. “We are utilizing trained, impartial, third-party investigators to determine the responsible parties.” One Wednesday, 3-1/2 weeks after words began spreading around about competition, administrators sent an e-mail that they were aware of the allegations and were investigating. Anyone with information was urged encouraged to come forward. The message summoned students to dorm meetings “to start a conversation about rape culture and the implications of toxic masculinity on our campus,” said Liam Miller, Pat-1 student supervisor. Miller said he understood that point values were assigned to various forms of liaison.. “You can’t just say ‘boys will be boys,’” said Miller. “There has to be acknowledgement and there has to be accountability.”
