LACROSSE, Wis. – Former Mayor Tim Kabat, who decided against seeking a third ter, has been named executive director of the LaCrosse Area Development Corporation. in announcing Kabat’s the appointment, the corporation’s governing board praised his experience in economic development. His salary was not announced. He succeeds Jorge Beltran, who was fired for allegations of outlandish personal charges on his corporate credit card and is being prosecuted. Kabat and Patti Balacek of Western Technical College, president of the corporation, both were on the board during Beltran’s time and took heat for stalling public revelation as to what was going on. Kabat also took heat in his last months as mayor for handling the discovery of ground-water poisons from the city-owned airport at Franch Island.
