MADISON, Wis. — A federal judge delayed proceedings against former Altoona schools superintendent Daniel Peggs so his attorney can evaluate new evidence related to his sex trial. Judge Stephen Croker said motions will now be due June 4. Peggs’ attorney asked for more time to review four terabytes of new evidence coming from a seizure in North Carolina. The attorney noted that he already had reviewed 170,000 pages of documents before learning of the new North Carolina material. The North Carolina connection was not immediately clear, but on February 20, 2020, when Peggs was indicted, Bryan Lee Ragon, 43, of Charlotte, North Carolina was arrested on charges similar to those against Peggs — sex trafficking of a minor and production of child pornography. Ragon also was indicted on transportation of a minor and receipt of child pornography. The Ragon case involved the U.S. Immigration and Customs Service and the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation.
