RED WING, Minn. – Rescuers brought a man, woman and child down from the He Mni Can-Barn monolith after they were trapped by shifting mud and ice. They were shaken but unhurt. Rescuers reached the family on the northside of the bluff, which overlooks the Mississippi River at the edge of downtown. They were stranded on a hiking trail across a steep slope. This was about 2 p.m. The incident prompted the Red Wing Fire Department to urge caution while hiking the bluffs because conditions can change quickly in the spring.
Slippery rescue. It took rescuers 40 minutes on the slippery trail to reach and extract a stranded family.
