BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. – The family of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, who was fatally shot in a police traffic stop, hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump for counsel and perhaps litigation. Crump has been a high-profile attorney in officer-involved shootings for black persons. His clients have included the families of Ahmaad Avery in Brunswick, Georgia; Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin; George Floyd in Minneapolis; and Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky. In the Floyd case, Crump negotiated a $ $27 million civil settlement from the city of Minneapolis. In a statement about the Daunte Wright case, Crump said: “This level of lethal force was entirely preventable and inhumane. What will it take for law enforcement to stop killing people of color?”
