By then, Buffalo County and Trempealeau County deputies and police from across the Mississippi River in Winona had arrived. This was about 2 a.m. They arrested Shakuur Kroll, 26, and Artanya Engel, 21, his woman friend. Such was the account police out together of a wild evening at George’s , a popular tavern on Highway 35 a mile from the Wisconsin-Minnesota bridge route to Winona. Police were alerted that something was wrong at George’s by a barkeep who pressed a robbery alarm behind the bar.  There was. no robbery or even a robbery attempt – just an out-of-control escalation of events.
