WINONA, Minn. – Firefighters deployed two 10-foot absorbent booms on Shives Creek to prevent an oil spill from moving downstream into the Mississippi backwaters at the industrial Far East End. Also, absorbent pads were used to catch keep more of the spill from entering the creek. The city environmental coordinator said the oil was coming from a storm sewer outlet. The seminal source was not immediately determined. The spill was reported about 4:30 p.m. from Louisa Street.
