ST. PAUL, Minn. – Major utilities summoned to a special meeting by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission said heating bills soon may skyrocket because of the historic cold wave in the South and the state’s recent subzero stretch. A typical household might receive heating bills $400 more than usual, the companies said. For customers with bill-balancing, the hikes would show on bills starting in September, the utilities said. Meanwhile, both CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy said their revenues are down because Co-Vid has left some customers in arrears.
