DRESBACH, Minn. – Every season finds anglers in the nook on the Minnesota banks of the Army Corps’ Lock and Dam Number 7 at Dresbach. Fish like the quiet pool besides the locks. Or so they say most days. Some anglers drag huts onto the ice and stay warm inside.  More rugged anglers bear the elements and haunch on buckets to wait for bites. Either way it’s quiet contemplation a world away.

Hooking and hoping. Ice fishers poke their holes in the ice of a pool besides the lock at Dam Number 7. Will there be enough takers for a piping hot supper at home? If not, the bluest of skies and and long shadows and the quiet grace of the Intestate 90 bridge can be satisfaction enough – even at minus-17. Image: Steve Lunde
