ROCHESTER, Minn. – As police closed in to arrest a man at a gym, the man ran to his his car and jumped in and rammed a police cruiser and sped off as an officer fired a weapon at the car. The man was gone before police could organize a chase. This was about 4:50 p.m. It was unknown whether he man, Jesse Johnson, 38, of Rochester, was wounded by the officer’s fire. Johnson had been sought on two felony assault warrants, one involving a firearm. Police had been tipped that Johnson was at the Planet Fitness gym in the 1000 block of 15th Avenue Southeast. That’s where the confrontation occurred.
Johnson. Still wanted. Five-foot-8, 215 pounds. Last seen in a 2008 silver Pontiac G-6 with Minnesota plates BKT-665 with damage to the rear bumper.
