WINONA, Minn. – The Winona Community Foundation has signed on to manage gifts toward a proposed outdoor stage coupled with a skateboard plaza on the West End. The design for the plaza comes from input and planning by skateboarders, organizer Zach Krage said.  The site: 800 West Fifth Street next to the Anthem Skate Park and Bob Welch Aquatic Center. The features:

> A two-level skate plaza with eight obstacles and  readily convertible for, BMX bike, scooter and in-line skating events.

> A stage as part of the plaza for live music.

> Green space with benches for families and gathering.

>Room for gatherings such as farmers’ markets.

> Drainage gardens to help manage runoff from concrete surface.

Krage said early donatins of $5,400 have moved toward the goal of $100,000 on the gofundme site. “Donations will help bring a sense of community and connection to the West End – a space that is free and accessible to all,” Krage said.

A receational complex. The plaza would put the indoor skate park, outdoor skate plaza, the Aquatic Center and the Aquatic Center park all within a block of each other.
