CHICAGO — The Republican National Committee unanimously chose Milwaukee for its 2024 national convention. A former national chair of the party, Reince Priebus of Racine, an early chief of staff  to President Donald Trump,  lobbied hard for Milwaukee. He was aided by state GOP coordinator  Gerard Randall, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and County Executive David Crowley. The chair of Wisconsin Republicans, Paul Farrow, noted that the party was born in Ripon, Wisconsin, in 1854. “We are thrilled to welcome the Grand Old Party home as we come together to select the next President of the United States,” he said. Dates reman to be set.

Republican goal. In part to enhance GOP visibility in swing state. Wisconsin.

Other contenders

Milwaukee had been an early GOP preference, but Nashville put itself into the running late. Then Nashviille backed out because of concerns about MAGA-inspired violence from Trump supporters. Other earlier bidders: Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh and Kanas City.

Democrats

Milwaukee was the Democrats’ choice for their 2020 convention, but CoVid rendered most of the convention online. Democrats have yet to pick a 2024 convention site. In the running: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and New York City.
