WINONA, Minn. — A woman who lives in the 150 block of East Sanborn Street reported being swindled out of $4,500 online. The woman said a man sent an Instagram that he was rich and wanted to send her  money. Over the next three days he sent three digital checks totaling $8,400. She put the checks in her bank account, and per his request, she sent $4,500 back through Apple Pay. Then, voila, the truth dawned. Her bank notified her that the man’s checks were counterfeit. She called police abou 3 p.m. The officer listened ro her story, the likes of which he had heard before, and referred her to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center website.
