KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Shareholders in the Kansas City Southern Railroad, which has tracks deep into ports industrial manufacturing cities in Mexico, accepted a $33.7 billion to sell to the Canadian National. In Montreal, where CN has headquarters, they uncorked the champagne in celebration and declared the merger would create “the premier railway for the 21st century.” The merger gives Canadian National access into northeastern and central Mexico and to ports in both the Atlantic and Pacific coast

Canadian National’s merger offer trumped an offer from rival Canadian Pacific by almost $4 billion. The new CN-KCS line will have 20,000 miles of track.
