ST. PAUL, Minn. – Reinforced security helped discourage trouble at a Stop the Steal rally at the state Capitol, said Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington. The pro-Trump rally, with about 500 protesters, included calls to breach the Capitol like was happening in Washington at the national Capitol, but in St. Paul there was no charge. Harrington said the reinforced security presence, including State Patrol troopers, helped discourage trouble. Stepped-up security will continue at the Capitol, he said. The Capitol has been fenced off since summer when George Floyd was killed in police custody in Minneapolis.
