ST. PAUL, Minn. — Protestersthrew a rope around a 10-foot bronze of Christopher Columbus outside the state Capitol and pulled it down.The protesters included Dakota and Ojibwe Indians who consider Columbus a symbol of genocide. The tribes had tried unsuccessfully for years to have the Legislature remove the statue. After toppling statue, the protestors celebrated with singing and drumming. State police in helmets did not try to stop the protesters. The protestors, also,demanded justice for George Floyd, whose killing by police May 25 in Minneapolis sparked demonstrations that has continued two weeks.
