MADISON, Wis. – The state Department of Natural Resources Department confirmed in a enws release a barn owl nest found in LaCrosse in September as the first documented in Wisconsin in 20-plus years. Although there’s been an uptick i sightings in Wisconsin, leading to been speculated that a few may be nesting, this is the first time in more than two decades that a nest has been confirmed, said Ryan Brady, the state bird monitoring coordinator. “This is an exciting development,” he said. “This nest could have easily gone undetected.” Brady thanked the homeowners who provided a habitat to fostering the nest from which a young owl fell and was injured; the Coulee Region Humane Society, which nurtursd the fallen baby; and Karla Bloem of the International Owl Center in Houston, Minnesota, for following up and photographing the whole family, minus the fallen baby, in a hollow high up in a tree.
