NEW YORK – Trump ally Ron Johnson announced a bid for a third U.S. Senate term on the Wall Street Journal’s conservative op-ed page. The eccentric and often factually conflicted Wisconsin senator said he had wanted to retire after 12 years but the nation is in “too much peril” and needs every possible Republican voice. Trump had encouraged Johnson to run last April. About his promise when re-elected in 2016 not to run a third time, Johnson said that circumstances have changed with Democrats taking control of Congress and the White House in 2020.

Johnson: “Having already experienced a growing level of vitriol and false attacks, I certainly don’t expect better treatment in the future. For my campaign to succeed, I will need the support of every American who values the truth and refuses to allow lies and distortions to prevail.”

Johnson. The millionaire Oshkosh plastics protruder is the only statewide elected Republican in Wisconsin.
